Kimberly (Sarisky) Slear - English Language Learners
Kimberly A. (Sarisky) Slear M.Ed
K-12 ELL Program Specialist
Danville's ELL program is designed to help students who are learning Engish as a second language to reach proficient levels of achievement in the academic areas of speaking, listening, reading, and writing in English. We nurture self-efficacy and self-identity in our English learners by recognizing and celebrating each student's linguistic and cultural background.
We engage parents/families to be active partners in the educational process.
I attended elementary schools in California and New Jersey before moving to Pennsylvania and graduating from Millville Area High School in Millville PA. I attended Penn State and earned my degree in Secondary English Education. I later returned to school to earn a Master of Education as a Reading Specialist from Bloomsburg University & English as a Second Language Certification from Susquehanna University. I am currently enrolled at Immaculata University, working towards certification for PreK-12 Social, Emotional, and Behavioral Wellness.
Prior to working in Danville, I worked as a 9-12th grade English teacher at an online high school and tutored for the Children’s Dyslexia Center. I was hired by Danville in 2015 as a Reading Specialist at the middle school. In 2019 I was given the opportunity to teach the English Language Language (ELL) program for grades K-12, and I love my job! The best part of it is getting to meet students from all over the world, learn more about their countries and cultures, and teach them how to improve their English skills.
When I am not teaching I enjoy reading, traveling, spoiling my cats, and spending time with my husband, 3 sons and 2 stepsons, and their families.
