Spanish Explorers
-
Spanish Explorers is a 9-week literal exploration of the Spanish language. It is designed to review the very basics of the langugae and also introduce some new concepts that allow fluency to grow! Students will learn vocabulary, but will then explore a grammar concept that allows them to use that vocabulary in every day conversational situations. Additionally, students will be exposed to a variety of culture topics from various Spanish-speaking countries...making this class a true adventure!
Some topics will include, but are not limited to, the following:
-Spanish-speaking countries and capitals
-Greetings, goodbyes, and basic questions with responses
-the Alphabet
-Numbers 0-100
-Days of the week, months of the year, and asking for/giving the date
-Seasons and weather expressions
-Colors and shapes
-Body parts
-Classroom items
-Animals and habitats
Spanish Explorers is mostly a participation-based class. Students will have several classwork assignments to complete each week (whether in class or remotely) with additional activities to complete for bonus credit. Classroom behavior (all students) and attendance (virtual students only) is factored into the grade as well.

Quizlet
This site has digital flashcards for all units covered in class, as well as supplemental/review sets, and bonus sets for students who need more!
Each student creates a username and password in class so that progress gets sent to me. However, students may study on this program without being logged in and from any device (the app is free to download on the App Store and Google Play).
This program is incredibly important for students, as it is the best way to memorize and work with the vocabulary they are responsible for as well as any vocab they feel they need to review. They can use this app independently or with a friend or family member. The app has recorded pronunciations (sometimes by me) so that students can be assisted with their verbal performance as well.

DuoLingo
Duolingo is an incredibly useful tool for students who want to spend extra time outside of class working on Spanish. It combines vocabulary and grammar skills and gives students reading, listening, and verbal production tasks. Students work their way from the most basic concepts to more challenging material. It is student-paced.
I encourage all students to spend at least five minutes a day on this program to help fill in the gaps of basic content they may have forgotten and to boost their vocabulary.
